Alternate Path

Below is a brief overview of the process:

 

  • Read Rule 14-703A and confirm that you meet the qualifications for participation in the Alternate Pathway.
  • Register to apply on admissions.utahbar.org and fill out the Alternate Pathway application.
  • Fill out the Character and Fitness Questionnaire and all required documents.
  • Ask your Qualified Supervising Attorney to fill out and return to you the Letter of Commitment. Upload the completed document to your application.
  • Ask your law school registrar to fill out and return to you the Law School Coursework Completion Certification. Upload the completed document to your application. 
  • Pay the required application fee and submit your application before the deadline.
  • Within 48 hours, you will receive an email from the NCBE with information on how to begin the background investigation. Respond to all requests from the NCBE.

 

  • You will receive an email from the Office of Admissions (admissions@utahbar.org) with confirmation that you qualify for the Alternate Pathway. The email will contain information about the supervised hours, required modules, and the exam.

 

  • Your Qualified Supervising Attorney will receive an email from the Office of Admissions with confirmation that they may act as a QSA. The email will contain information relevant to their duties.

 

  • Once you and your QSA receive confirmation that you qualify, you may begin fulfilling the requirements for the program. Please note that you may not begin your supervised hours until after you have completed the final exams in your final semester of law school and we receive the certification from your law school registrar indicating you have completed all required courses.
